Child Development

Nothing matters more to a parent than whether their child is thriving, developing well and achieving their full potential. In our experience at Lifespan Psychology, parents try every resource at their disposal to do the very best for their children, and to meet their varying and diverse needs.

At times, we get scared that our children are not following a typical trajectory for their development. Walking, speech, social communication, toileting, learning disabilities or fine motor skills may be a concern. Parents might suspect their child is neurodiverse and have issues with educational attainment, school refusal or behaviour in the classroom. More families than ever before now choosing to homeschool their children.

At Lifespan Psychology we’re here for you and your child every step of the way. We can offer you your own personal therapy, family sessions or one-to-one sessions for your child. We’ve covered all bases for you. We also offer autism screenings and diagnostic ADHD assessments.

Sessions are adapted to the child’s age, stage and context and we can work directly with school teachers to provide behavioural support in the classroom. If your child is refusing school, feel free to ask them to complete this questionnaire and send it to us. We can discuss it in your first consultation.

If your child has a neurological condition or acquired brain injury, did you know we’ve written a book on innovative ways to work psychologically with the child, family and system? To our knowledge, this is the only psychological therapy book for children with acquired brain injury (ABI), and it’s estimated that one in seven children in the classroom have an ABI due to illness, injury or child abuse. Here’s the copy of our book co-edited by Dr Jenny Jim & Dr Esther Cole: Psychological Therapy for Paediatric Acquired Brain Injury.
