Autism
Working With Autism
Autism or Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) is a neurodevelopmental diagnosis which encompasses a broad range of experiences. Autistic experiences can include differences with neurotypical people such as:
- Social communication and mentalisation (understanding their own and others minds)
- Sensory information processing
- Repetitive behaviours, routines and special interests
It’s called a spectrum because autism looks different from person to person. Some autistic people need significant daily support, while others are highly independent.
At Lifespan Psychology we believe in a neuro-affirmative approach that recognises everyone’s unique strengths, talents and abilities. It’s well documented that autistic people excel in areas such as creative problem-solving, pattern recognition, attention to detail, memory and deep focus.
Autism Screening
Are you wondering whether you or your child might be neurodivergent? Making sense of possible Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) or ADHD traits can feel confusing and overwhelming. We offer screening assessments designed to provide clarity and guidance before deciding whether to pursue a full diagnostic assessment.
With specialist expertise in neurodiversity we use a compassionate, evidence-based approach to help individuals and families better understand their strengths, challenges, and next steps.
What the Screening Involves
Screening typically includes:
- A clinical interview
- Developmental history taking (for children or adults, as appropriate)
- Self-report measures and questionnaires
`Together, these help build a detailed picture of whether you or your child are likely to meet criteria for ASD or ADHD, and support informed decision-making about further assessment or support options.
What You’ll Receive
- A psychological screening report, summarising key findings and recommendations
- The option for bespoke consultation with schools or other professionals, if helpful.
Our goal is to offer thoughtful, transparent support that helps you make confident and informed decisions about next steps.
Please note: this is a screening service, not a formal diagnostic assessment, and we do not prescribe medication.
