ADHD

Lifespan Psychology offers gold-standard NICE approved ADHD diagnostic services for children from the age of 7, adolescents, and adults. The process begins with an initial consultation followed by a detailed diagnostic assessment. The team takes a “lifespan” approach, recognising that ADHD presents differently across ages and genders, and provides tailored interventions such as psychoeducation, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and coaching to build executive functioning and attentional skills. Emphasising evidence-based, bespoke and person-centred care, Lifespan Psychology’s diverse team is committed to helping children, adults, school teachers and employers manage ADHD effectively at every stage of life.

What is ADHD?

ADHD stands for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It’s a neurodevelopmental condition i.e. it’s a condition which emerges in childhood. It’s a natural variation to the typical or “neurotypical” brain. The definition of ADHD includes symptoms of hyperactivity, inattentiveness and impulsivity. You may also meet the criteria for a diagnosis if your symptoms are mainly around finding it hard to pay attention. Modern neuro-affirmative movements are moving away from ADHD as a “disorder”. There is evidence to show that ADHD brains have strengths and abilities with many evolutionary advantages linked to qualities such as creativity, adaptability, innovation and positive risk-taking.

APPROACH

At Lifespan Psychology we take a neuro-positive approach and recognise everybody and every family has strengths. We believe life and career coaching, adjustments to the environment and a deeper understanding of ourselves – what psychologists call a “formulation” of any difficulties – can lead to growth and improvements in a person’s life at home, work and school. A number of therapies can be used to alleviate the impact of ADHD such as CBT, cognitive neuro-rehabilitation, behavioural therapy and coaching to name a few.
