Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Imagine you had woken up in the morning to discover a miracle had happened and the problem was no longer there. What is the first thing you and others would notice about you and your life? How would you feel? What would you be doing differently?

Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Imagine you had woken up in the morning to discover a miracle had happened and the problem was no longer there. What is the first thing you and others would notice about you and your life? How would you feel? What would you be doing differently?

The aim of Solution-Focused Therapy is to facilitate rapid and effective change by helping you identify and use your existing strengths and resources to achieve your desired goals and outcomes.

Solution-Focused Therapy is grounded in the belief that you are capable of finding solutions to your problems, even if they seem insurmountable. The therapy focuses on the present and future, rather than dwelling on past issues or diagnosed mental health disorders.

Therapists in this approach invite you to have collaborative conversations that explore their goals, exceptions to the problem, and instances when the issue is less prevalent. By amplifying moments of success and resilience, Solution-Focused Therapy aims to empower you to visualise and plan practical steps towards a better future.

Solution-focused therapy uses questioning that looks for answers and techniques that invite you to rate and imagine progress on a scale called “scaling techniques”. The use of language that emphasises strengths and possibilities encourages you to recognise your abilities, will power, build confidence and assertiveness, and generate solutions that lead to meaningful change in your life.
