Parenting

Everyone told us parenting was the most difficult job in the world and we didn’t believe them. We are cleaner, cook, nurse, taxi, nanny, nurturer, finance manager, creche facilitator, events organiser, confidant, peace-keeper, launderette and more! When the time came, many of us couldn’t wait to be parents or were pleasantly surprised when we heard the news. But what if you didn’t receive the parenting you needed or are really struggling with parenting despite all the amazing effort you put in?

Truth be told, modern society isn’t quite cut out for parenting. School hours don’t match work hours, we rarely have the village it takes to raise our children, the cost of living increases the more our beautiful world is torn by conflict; and no two children in the world are alike, not even siblings. So many of those self-help books don’t work for you? Do you ever find yourself burnt out and using trial and error in your parenting or drawing on what to do – or what not to do – from your own upbringing?

Parenting Consultations

At Lifespan Psychology we believe every child and family should have personalised psychological support that’s tailored to For them. We offer all parents a consultation ahead of their child’s sessions, and offer a combination of joint, one-to-one and indirect sessions with parents, school teachers and the network around the child, so we can best support their development, emotional well-being and achievements. We want every child to reach their full potential – after all, our futures are in their hands.

When our children have mental or physical health issue, the most challenging yet rewarding job in the world can fill our minds with concern and worry. It can take the joy out of parenting and be utterly exhausting, confusing and frightening.

It can be extremely difficult to find a trained child psychologist or psychotherapist that suits your child and family’s needs. The NHS waiting times for mental health services are extremely long for children – from 6 months to 2 years in some parts of the UK.
