Bipolar Disorder

If you have a diagnosis of Bipolar disorder, you’ll be familiar with significant shifts in your mood, energy, activity levels and ability to function. You’ll cycle between these states, with periods of stability in your mood, in between cycles, lasting from weeks to months.

When you’re feeling high, your mind could be racing and you might think you can do anything. You could feel elated, stay up all night and all day, not feeling you need sleep at all. You could experience difficulties controlling your impulses, for example spending money on impulse, make rash decisions and communicate really quickly. People can also notice they have an inflated sense of self-esteem when they feel high.

When you’re feeling low, your thinking might get extremely negative, your motivation, interest in things, concentration and energy levels might suffer. It could be difficult to carry out your everyday routine.

Bipolar Disorder Treatment

At Lifespan Psychology, we work privately alongside your psychiatrist or NHS team to give you the best possible recovery. Although medication (like mood stabilisers) are usually recommended, psychological therapies play a major role in managing, balancing and preventing symptoms and improving your quality of life and relationships.
